ProStart

Spanish Fork and Salem Hills High competed in the State ProStart competition on March 3rd at the U of U.

Utah’s ProStart program is an incredible opportunity for students who are interested in culinary arts, hospitality, and restaurant management.

Across the country, more than 213,000 students in over 1,800 high schools participate in ProStart each year, gaining real-world experience that connects classroom learning with industry careers (National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation). Through the program, students develop skills in culinary techniques, food safety, cost control, menu development, teamwork, and leadership—all essential skills in one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States.

In Utah, ProStart gives students the chance to:

• Work with industry mentors and professional chefs

• Compete in culinary and restaurant management competitions

• Earn industry-recognized certifications

• Build pathways to college scholarships and careers in hospitality

Beyond the kitchen, students learn time management, professionalism, and collaboration, preparing them for success whether they pursue culinary careers, hospitality management, entrepreneurship, or other leadership roles.

Programs like ProStart show students that their passion can turn into a profession—and that the hospitality industry offers meaningful, creative, and rewarding career paths.

A huge thank you to the teachers, chefs, and industry partners who invest their time in mentoring the next generation of culinary professionals.SHHS 1SHHS 2 SFHS 1SFHS 2
